AMD Treatment

AMD is a condition of the eye (normally seen in older adults) which affects the vision in the center of the visual field as a result of retina damage. If you or someone you know needs treatment for AMD in central Ohio, consider stopping in to one of our five locations: Downtown Columbus, West side Columbus, Dublin, Westerville, and Reynoldsburg.

AMD is one of the leading causes of blindness in older adults, and has two forms “dry” and “wet.” Some signs that you might have AMD include blurred and/or distorted vision, difficulties distinguishing colors, and desensitization to contrast. Although AMD can result in impaired vision, it only rarely results in total blindness and it is common for patients to retain peripheral vision.

Risk factors include having a family history of AMD, having a history of hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, and being a smoker.

Treatments vary from therapy to prescriptions and certain nutrients can slow the progress of AMD if started in the early stages.
